Chapter One: My Life



“Ariel watch out!” My friend Brenda yelled at me. I whip my head around to see what she was talking about and smack, a white object hits me right in the face. I fall to the ground with a loud thump.

“Shit Brenda what did you do?” Suzie yells.

She says, “Nothing the volleyball just smacked her in the face. I didn’t mean to it, it was an accident.”

I blink my eyes open and my friends standing on top of me all merge into each other through my vision. Jeez, I thought, why did I have to be friends with people who were good at sports? As I tried to get up I fell back down on my butt.

Kyle grabbed my hand, “Gosh you’re such a loser sometimes.”

I protested, “Well sorry I’m not the next Beckham like you are Mr. I’m Amazing At Every Sport.”

He chuckled and pulled me up all the way. I wiped the dirt off the back of my butt and Brenda rushed up to me.

She said, “Oh my gosh Ariel! I am so so so sorry! I didn’t mean for the ball to hit you. I just-“

I stopped her mid-sentence, “Brenda, breathe. It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not bleeding or in need of going to the hospital.”

She chuckled, “You’re so strong, if that were me I would have been crying like a baby.”

I nodded my head in agreement and being childish I said, “Race you guys to the swings!”

We all ran from the volleyball court to the swing set in the playground. My black Converse started to become untied but I kept running anyway. Running was the only sport I was actually good at, that’s why I was ahead of all my friends.

I heard a voice from behind me, “And from behind Kyle Fort starts to make his way to first place. He pushes past Suzie, Brenda, and finally Ariel!”

His navy Nikes surpass me and he jumps onto one of the swings. I cross my arms and say to him, “Come on you totally cheated!”

Suzie and Brenda aren’t even half way here yet. He smirks at me, “Just because I beat you doesn’t mean you need to get all jealous.”

I stick my tongue out at him and say, “I’m not jealous when I know I’m better than you.”

Then he challenges me and takes a few steps closer to me, "We'll just have to see about that."

Both of our faces are less than inch away. Then we hear Brenda shout, “Gosh! You guys are like running champions compared to Suzie and me. I’m so bad at this.”

We instantly pull away and Kyle walks over to her, “But it’s okay because you’re good at other things.” Then he pulls her in for a long kiss.

I sigh and when they pull away I just smile at them. What no one knows is that I have a crush on Kyle. He is my best guy friend and I know it’s so cliché but I don’t know what it is about him. The way he smiles or his kind words to me when I am hurt or his eyes I could look into forever. Only there’s one problem, he’s dating my friend Brenda. And this suckish story is my life.

AN: Ok, I know this is REALLY REALLY cliche so far but it will stray away from the usual teenager-movie path.

Sometimes it's okay to be cliche:)
But don't worry,
I have no doubt you can stray from the path.
