As we get to the first corner I see my friend Chloe’s dad. He yells to me from his porch, “Hey Claire!”
I holler back, “Hi Mr. Toppel! How are you?”
He answers, “I’m doing fine, and yourself?”
I smile, “Oh you know just enjoying the gorgeous summer night.”
Wes and I keep walking down the street until he says, “Promise me something.”
I say, “Okay. What?”
He looks at me, “When we reach the park we have to go on the tire swing.”
I roll my eyes at his childish remark, “Yes Wes, we’ll go on and then play in the sandbox.”
He chuckles, “Oh you know you want to build a sand castle too.”
I answer, “Guilty.”
We get to the main road to cross so we can get to the park. I push the button an insane amount of times so that the light will change. I can see the light getting ready to turn yellow and then red.
We have the green and he screams, “Quick! Hop on my back!”
I am confused but he grabs me and the next thing I know he is running across the street and I am holding onto his shoulders and my legs are wrapped around him.
I yell, “The light is almost red! We’re gonna get hit!”
He yells back at me, “No we’re not! Don’t worry Claire I got this!”
Sure enough we make it in time and I jump off his back. We are both in hysterics and holding onto each other for support. We continue to walk and giggle down the street and make a right onto the next block.
I say to him, “I can see the park entrance from here!”
As he is about to say something a little girl named Tori passes me, “Hi Claire!”
I crouch down to her level, “Hello Miss. Tori. How are you on this fine evening?”
A big smile spreads across her face, “I’m great, my mommy just got me the ice cream man.” She holds up a toasted almond to show me.
I widen my eyes, “That’s so awesome! Is it yummy?”
She nods, “Yeah it’s the best thing I have ever eaten! Well I gotta go but I’ll see you later.”
She skips away and I smile, little kids are so cute. Me and Wes continue walking when he says to me, “Claire, your life is actually like a movie.”
I chuckle, “Haha how?”
He answers, “Because wherever you go people say hi to you and the whole neighborhood loves you.”
I joke with him, “Nah, it would only be a movie if you were in love with me.”
He stops in his tracks and looks at me, “Well then I guess it is a movie then,” he quickly blushes and awkwardly and says, “Just kidding.”
Then when we reach the entrance of the park we stop for a second to open the gate.
I turn around and say to Wes, “Can you help me opening the-“
And then he stops me and pulls me in for a big kiss. It was like nothing like I have ever felt before and when I pulled away I looked at his big blue eyes.
He smiles, “Ok, now your life is officially a movie.”
