Ever since I could read I read my older sister’s, Carla, Seventeen magazines. Carla was the type of girl that never got acne, never frowned, and never disappointed. Some would think that I would be frustrated following in her light. But I basked in her beacon, absorbing everything she tossed to me. It’s a 7 year age difference, but she always had time for me. She was 14 and I was 7 when our dad died. It was horrible, but Carla never failed to be the strong one for me. Never. I admire her for that, I admire it so much. And when I was 15, the first summer that rolled around when my mother had a new boyfriend, I wanted to be anywhere but Chestney and I wanted to shine my own light.
